BRCA Gene Testing Part 3, Sept 2013
September 01, 2013
The Cancer Society is looking for breast or ovarian cancer survivors - are you one?
Then prepare yourself this September for the FREE breast and ovarian cancer BRCA1 & BRCA2 testing (round 3), with Dr. Judith Hurley De-Leo (MD), and Genetic Counselor Dr. Talia Donenberg (PhD) from the University of Miami.
Testing will take place on September 18, 19 & 20, 2013.
What You Need to Know
Everyone has BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. BRCA genes repair cell damage and help normal growth of breast cells. When these genes become abnormal or mutate, and are passed from one generation to the next, the risk for breast or ovarian cancer increases.
This study is looking at women in the Caribbean from the countries of Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Dominica, Cayman Islands and Barbados who HAVE or HAD breast or ovarian cancers.
If you think you may qualify to participate in this third round of testing, contact the Cancer Society at 949-7618, or visit us at 114 Maple Road (yellow building in front of the GT Hospital).
