Flowers Sea Swim Charity Dinner

Join us for a Charity Dinner June 9th and help us raise money to help Caribbean people!

In light of community icon Ms Eve Flowers passing away, I thought I would send this to you and ask for your help.  Ms Eve was the beloved wife of the well-loved Flowers Family who did so much for the community.  24 years ago they established the annual 1 mile Flowers Sea Swim and every year the proceeds of the event benefit a charity in the community.

This year the FSS proceeds will benefit the Cancer Society and we have big, life-saving, plans for those funds.  Sadly, Ms Eve was never able to find a 100% match for a bone marrow transplant that could have extended her life.  In loving memory of Ms. Eve, we will be using the funds raised from the FSS to increase bone marrow donors of Afro-Caribbean descent. Most often, bone marrow transplant patients need a donor who is of the same ethnic or racial background. BUT, people of color are globally drastically underrepresented in the bone marrow registries. Tragically, most adults and children from diverse backgrounds cannot get the life-saving bone marrow transplant they need because there is no match for them in the bone marrow registries. More donors from diverse backgrounds are desperately needed.

It costs $75 to get someone on the donor registry (this charge covers the kit, the testing and registration) so whatever funds we raise will allow us to add more donors.  Our message is simple:

To register as a donor with the Caribbean Bone Marrow Registry, all it takes is a simple swab of the inside of your cheek to be added to the donor registry. Then someday, YOU could be called to save someone’s life. Swab a Cheek, Save a Life.

Hope you will be able to help us, help others so the loving legacy of Ms. Eve will live on.

Jen
