SUMMARY:DG’s 5k Challenge set for May 2022
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: This event is now set to take place on 29 May 2022.  \nGrand Cayman\, 21 February 2022 – Every year\, the Deputy Governor and the DG’s 5k Challenge Planning Committee look forward to hitting the road with the community to raise money for some worthy causes. \nOriginally scheduled for April 2020\, and postponed twice due to COVID-19\, the Challenge is now being planned for April this year. Proceedings are expected to continue as normal\, in line with relaxed COVID-19 regulations on outdoor sporting activities effective 18 February 2022. \n“The DG’s 5k has become a fixture on our Cayman Islands sporting calendar and one that the chosen beneficiaries appreciate\,” said the Deputy Governor\, Hon. Franz Manderson. “As we navigated public health concerns in 2020 and 2021\, we decided it was best to postpone the event. Now\, with the country learning to live with COVID\, we believe it is timely to bring back the DG’s 5K\, while observing the regulations so everyone keeps safe.” \nOrganisers hope that runners\, walkers\, and supporters of all ages will mark their calendars and be able to join the Challenge come April. The dates earmarked are: \n🏃 Sunday\, 3 April 2022 – Cayman Brac\n🏃 Sunday\, 10 April 2022 – Little Cayman\n🏃 Sunday\, 29 May 2022 – Grand Cayman \n \nWhen can I register? Registration begins the 1st of March\, you can register here!  \n \nWith this being a delayed staging of the 2020 Challenge\, the event’s theme\, Helping Today – Protecting Tomorrow\, remains the same. The charities that would have benefitted in 2020 also remain: the Cayman Islands Cancer Society (CICS)\, The Alzheimer’s and Dementia Association of the Cayman Islands (ADACI) and The MS Foundation of the Cayman Islands.\n“During very troubled times the Cayman Islands has been blessed to experience a great deal of success. We hope that our highly anticipated DG’s 5k Challenge will stand as a beacon of hope\, as something that everyone will see as an opportunity to come together to reconnect and have fun\, doing something that is good for our health while also supporting some very deserving charities\,” Mr Manderson added. \n \nStay tuned for continuing updates on the DG’s 5k. \n
